"OUTLAW PSYCHOSIS" is the second full length release from Pennsylvania's 44 MAG.
These guys play a very cool mixture of a few different Metal styles. The foundation of
their sound, I would say is Thrash Metal music. It is more of a dirty old school Thrash
Metal style that has a bit of that great Crossover style from the '80's when Thrash & Punk
were crossing over into each other. They do throw in a heavy Sludge Metal style to the
sound as well. This reminds me a the great CLUTCH a lot. They have that killer grooved
out sound with that thick chugging sound that reminds me of a Mack truck cruising down
the highway and just plowing into everything in it's path. It's just a really thick heaviness
and I love it. They also have a kind of Punk like attitude of a party band playing in people
back yards in the middle of nowhere or in the basement of some abandoned house some
where. I was loving this a lot. The vocals done by Jared Mondell are done in a dirty almost
Southern Metal style with a bit of groggy Punk thrown in. These guys are just all around
cool and each song crushes the one prior to it. Think of bands like CLUTCH, D.R.I.
NASHVILLE PUSSY, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, early SLAYER, early
SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, PANTERA, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, ORANGE
GOBLIN & THE MEATMEN all mixed together then sprinkle in some Punk and Thrash
for flavoring and the end result would be 44 MAG. These guys are and incredible band and
I would love to see them live someday. I highly recommend anyone and everyone to pick
up this album, especially if your into any of the above bands.
