PULVERISED RECORDS has re-issued the "WORLD OF MYTHS" album from Swedish
Death / Doom Metal band CRYPT OF KERBEROS. The album was originally released in
1993 on ADIPOCERE RECORDS. The band went on hiatus shortly after the original
release of this album. In 2005 the guys were working on a compilation of their older material
and decided to work on new material as well. This lead to the bands "INTO THE RUINS"
EP released this year. At the time of this original release CRYPT OF KERBEROS was one
of the leaders in the Swedish Progressive Death Metal scene. These guys kind of got left
behind, because of the hiatus, but are finally getting their due thanks to PULVERISED
RECORDS. These guys stand tall with likes of the great bands CYNIC & ATHEIST, who
later carried on the torch for Progressive Death Metal. Even though these guys have tons of
brutality they did incorporate lots of unusual textures and timing. There is a lot of guitar
shredding and riffing that shows the influences of Thrash Metal, which was also popular at
the time. The vocals are done in a low ended dirty Death growl style. This isn't the most
advanced or involved Progressive Death Metal release, but you must remember these guys
were at the start of that Metal movement. Without bands like CRYPT OF KERBEROS and
CYNIC & ATHEIST carrying on after we wouldn't have bands like MESHUGGAH,
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME & MASTODON today.
