EYES OF THE LIVING
"WAR ON DEAD"
S.L.A.M. MUSIC

"WAR ON DEAD" is the debut release from a crushing new Thrash Metal band from the
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. The band features well known and established musicians
from the Philadelphia area. The band features Chris Moore on bass and backing vocals &
Tim Swisher on guitars and vocals, both who played in one of the best Philadelphia based
bands back in the 90's,
ABOLISH. The band is rounded out with Mike Straton on lead
guitar & Cliff Fritts on drums, who were both in another killer Philly band,
PUMMEL.
Both of these bands were crushing and were some of the best bands to emerge from the
Philly scene.
EYES OF THE LIVING is a mash up of both those bands, which will
make any fan of their previous bands extremely happy. They play a very cool style of
old school Thrash Metal music with some slight touches of Death Metal thrown in the
mix. The music has that killer old school shredding and chugging sound from the late 80's
and early 90's Thrash. I loved the chugging guitars and how they could get any crowd
moving in a circle pit. They have a bit of a crusty roughness to them at times with a some
what polished guitar sound. The combination of both these styles are well balanced.
Tim's vocals are done in a throaty and sometimes groggy Thrash style that reminds me of
bands like
NUCLEAR ASSAULT, FAITH OR FEAR, FORBIDDEN & a little bit of
OVERKILL thrown in at times. If you were to combine the sounds of the above bands
along with some
EXODUS, DESTRUCTION, SACRED REICH then add in some
touches of new school Thrash bands like
MUNICIPAL WASTE, IRON REAGAN,
HAVOK
& TOXIC HOLOCAUST then you would have a great idea of what EYES
OF THE LIVING
sounds like. "WAR ON DEAD" is a concept album based on the
Zombie Apocalypse storyline. There are 14 tracks total on the album with some of the
stand out tracks (in my opinion) being "Hell On Earth", "Chemical Bath", "Stench Of
Death" & the title track "War On Dead". For all those Philly fans who missed the good
old days of great local Thrash Metal bands,
EYES OF THE LIVING have risen from
the ashes of their previous bands and emerged with, dare I say it so early in the year, but
I will, one of the best Thrash Metal albums of the year! Lots of old school Thrash with
the right amount of new school Thrash to please fans of both eras of the genre!
