MYRKVAR was formed in 2003 out of the ashes of the band LORD ASTAROTH. "AS
EN BLOOD" is the second full length offering from this Folk / Viking Metal band out of
the Netherlands. This album is a concept album based on the end times better known as
Ragnarok in Norse mythology. MYRKVAR may have not been around as long as a lot of
the many other Folk Metal bands, but they sure can hold their own with the likes of
KORPIKLANNI, ENSIFERUM, ELUVETIE, TURISAS & FINNTROLL. These
guys and girl have a very killer Folk Metal sound that does incorporate some elements of
Pagan & Black Metal music all through out. They mix up their sound a bit by adding in
cello, synthesizer and violin parts as well. The sound most of the time has a bit of a darker
vibe which leans them more towards the Viking side instead of the Folk Metal side. I love
this style of Metal a lot and am glad to have found another great band like MYRKVAR
playing this genre of music. I have seen the PAGANFEST Tour a few times now and
MYRKVAR would definitely fit in perfectly with all the bands that have appeared on the
fest so far! If your a Folk Metal fan than you'll definitely want to pick this album up!!!
