There are a ton of great French Black Metal bands and at the top of the pile would be
REVERENCE. These guys have been unleashing their harsh brand of Black Metal since
1998. The band has gone through some changes over the years but has still kept to the core
of their sound. On their newest release "THE ASTHENIC ASCENSION" these guys have
taken some of their older material and melted together with their newer releases. The music
has a strong old school cold harsh European Black Metal sound. They take me back to the
early 90's when most of the underground Black Metal I was listening to was from Italy,
France, Norway, Sweden & Finland. There is a real grimness that blankets their sound giving
that war like vibe and sound. They do mix in some more atmospheric and orchestrated parts
to break up the fast paced harshness from time to time. The vocals add in another element by
mixing in lower ended Death / Black Metal growls with some mid ranged rough Black Metal
screams and some cleaner more melodic vocals. Fans of most of the bands on the old Black /
Death Metal labels NECROPOLIS RECORDS & WORLD WAR III RECORDS will
love these guys! Another great release to add to the bands legacy that will please the fans of
their early work as well as their more recent! Killer Black Metal at it's finest!
